Characteristics
Despite his artificial origins, Kirby is an anatomically standard mortal batamon boy. His fur is vibrant pink, with red-pink feet and cheek markings. The canon events of most Kirby games take place over the course of Kirby’s childhood, when he still has his fluffy juvenile coat. Like all pterosphaerans, he was born with a soft white lanugo like their ice-breeding ancestors. He shed this baby coat over the course of the events of Kirby’s Dream Land/Spring Breeze, making him resemble his depiction on the game’s American box art. When his adult coat grows in, he retains his signature light pink color. His fur and blubber hide most of the folds and wrinkles caused by moving his arms and feet. The fur is hidden by the art style conventions of canon.
Kirby’s canonical height of 8 inches is a snapshot from his early childhood, around the time of the events of Kirby’s Adventure/Nightmare in Dream Land or Kirby Super Star. He quickly reaches a foot tall in the following years, eventually reaching about 19 inches in height by Kirby Star Allies.
Personality
Kirby is bubbly, optimistic, and always ready to make friends. He enjoys life’s simple pleasures: food, sleep, play, and companionship. He loves his peaceful lifestyle, and has fought to protect it for himself and others for his entire life. He takes his heroics in stride. He will accept attention from admirers, but doesn’t often brag about his victories, preferring to discuss them as matters of fact when they come up. He is impulsive. He’s prone to eating other people’s snacks when they’re not looking, but he’s just as likely to take up the responsibility of solving other people’s problems.
Though friendly and caring, Kirby is not without a mischievous streak. He likes to sing, he isn’t very good at it, and he’s not above using it to annoy his friends on purpose. Sometimes his snack theft is entirely remorseless. He small possessions and putting them in unusual places. His favorite prank target is King Dedede, as an extension of their longtime rivalry. Later in the timeline, when they’re solidly on good terms, castle staff on Mt. Dedede occasionally assist Kirby in more elaborate pranks, such as flipping every chair in the dining hall. Marx joins him once he returns to life and to Popstar, though Kirby scolds him when his pranks get too intense.
Kirby has maintained a strong sense of justice from a young age, which leads him to grapple with the nature of his role as a hero as he grows up. He develops a fixation on rehabilitating his former enemies following the events of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land. His positive interactions with the Squeak Squad and the steady improvement of his relationships with Dedede and Meta Knight were the initial catalysts. He begins to come to terms with his role in Marx’s death between Squeak Squad and Epic Yarn and faces his own mortality in Mass Attack. This fixation fully takes hold after Magolor’s defeat, as Kirby assumes Magolor died and feels intensely guilty for failing to save him.
Abilities
Kirby’s body has a notably higher degree of elasticity and resilience than the average puff.
